Hey everyone! I hope you’re all well.
Today’s blog post is all about university. You may be considering going next year, you might not want to go at all, or you could have started back in September and realised it’s not for you. Either way, we’re here for you all.
It’s no secret that university is not for everyone; it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ situation, and, in my experience, it’s one of those things that a lot of people learn is not how you expect it to be! For a lot of us, it’s so widely talked about when you’re growing up that, when you’re finally there, it can be disappointing or shocking. Ultimately, it might spook you out a bit! (No Halloween puns intended here… we promise.) And, if it does - that’s okay. I myself (and several others I know) left university after making an informed decision about it. What’s your stance on uni? Has it spooked you so far?
Not been freaked out by your first term? Bravo!
University is totally right and suited to some people - everyone is different. Stay motivated, chase your dreams and, for those of you who may have moved away for your studies, take note of our handy tips for moving away from home. Enjoy the upcoming christmas break and until then, keep working hard 💪
Don’t be afraid! According to a study by the Guardian, more than 1/10 students are expected to ‘drop out’ before graduation. So, you’re totally not alone in the way you’re feeling.
If university is not what you expected and you’re considering leaving, don’t panic - you have options, and plenty of them, such as:
- Gap year
- University …degree apprenticeship style!
So, have you ever considered an apprenticeship? Here’s some reasons why people love them:
A lot of us don’t actually know what degree apprenticeships are - we’re just not taught about them at school, which seems crazy to me because they can bring absolutely fantastic opportunities!
Personally, when I left uni, I was keen to get into the world of work and gain some valuable, real-life work experience. An apprenticeship gives you just that - it’s the perfect combination of working and learning, and I’d genuinely recommend one to everyone. There’s hundreds of options, too, so there really is something to suit everyone. Check out what some of our amazing candidates have to say about apprenticeships!
- ‘With the right apprenticeship, you get the best of both worlds. Not having to worry about a huge debt from uni is a bonus.’ Josh, 18
- ‘I want an apprenticeship so I can gain experience in the real working world whilst being mentored and earning at the same time.’ Saffy, 19
